Eating too much sugar will make you gain weight. Remember sweet potatoes are potatoes and not sweet. They are actually the starch from which we get our hands involved when we eat. Eating just sweet potatoes will not make you fat, but eating lots of them will.
Oregano, basil, bacon grease, hydrogenated vegetable oils, and too many other fats are also culprits that will make you fat. Learn to read the food labels. Although delicious, foods that are heavily seasoned with salt, pepper, and other spices have been heavily processed and contain unhealthy fats.
How to eat right:
– Use foods to maximize the amount of vitamins and minerals you get from them while still enjoying a delicious meal.
Chew meat. gum rotisserie, smoked salmon, ham, bacon, etc. are all great examples of lip smacking, mouth watering, delicious eating. These mouth watering dishes are loaded with natural flavors. You’ll also feel much better about eating these.
Be careful with coffee and tea: These are addictive. Just like liquor, coffee and tea damage your teeth and cause cavities. The helpful flavors are caffeinated or decaf beverages. You can have a mini-meeting with your tooth fairy and honestly answer their questions. I would not advise making your own children’s tooth fairy but it will be fun to sit around the table with the rest of the kids and watch this amazing sports activity.
A favorite is always a quick at lunch. Pack up ham, chicken nuggets, shrimp, and fancy mushrooms. Slice vegetables thinly and pack these in your child’s lunch box. There is no need to have meat in your child’s lunch box because these cuts are easy on the pocket and healthy. Go for the broccoli, zucchini, carrots, and cheese sticks.
Mix in a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter with a small container of hummus making a great sandwich spread for the bread. Either make your own or buy a ready made one. Either way, your child will eat it. Go for the hummus because it helps carry the lunch load.
My child favorite is a bowl of easy to make ‘n slice sandwiches on whole wheat bread. Just like the ones kids eat at their favorite restaurants, you can stuff the sandwiches with as much or as little as this healthy leftover. Cut into quarters and let your child slice his/her own. The possibilities are endless.
Sandwiches are easy to make and easy to eat. Try this recipe. After cutting each sandwich into quarters, cut the two sides down the middle. Use the two halves like a coupon in a suitably decorated mug. Write the number of portions on it. Then write the name of the sandwich and who’s ready to eat on it.
Have them wait at least 30 minutes for their turn in the sun. Once they arrive, go over the sandwiches and dine. Ask if they had fun? Of course, they said yes!
“I didn’t get any ice cream today,” they’ll say after eating the fat-free/sugar-free ration. “I’m not hungry,” they’ll say, and head for the nearest snack booth on the board.
If you don’t eat the food your kid cooks up, don’t buy it. It’s not worth the hype. Serve your kid a real hot meal every day. It will make them happy. It will make everyone around them happy.
It’s not easy to serve a balanced dinner. But it’s easy to make it healthy. And fun. The family will eat better. You’ll be happy.
